Servo Clutch Inspection

Most Autopilot and/or Aircraft Manufacturers require a routine calendar inspection of the Autopilot Servo's Clutches.

This task is completed on a test bench by powering up the servo and checking the torque at which the clutch starts to slip.

It is an essential part of the system operation as it ensures that the servo will have sufficient torque available to control the aircraft and yet not so much that the pilot will not be able to overpower the autopilot in an emergency.

The most common systems in GA aircraft are:

Bendix/King ( Honeywell )
KFC200 System using KS270, KS271, KS272 Servos.

GFC700 System using GSM85 Digital Servos.
