The Ideal 45-174 is designed specifically for aircraft grade Teflon wire like M22759. Size range of 16-26G. Simple one handed operation.
The grip jaws are coated with a material that won't damage or degrade the insulation of the wire. Standard wirestrippers have raised serrations that dent the insulation and reduce it's dielectric strength, over time this can lead to the breakdown of the insulation and dangerous arc-through conditions.
The cutting blades are counterbored from both sides to eliminate nicked wire strands (the cutting is done in the middle of the blade, not on the edge). Cuting the wire strands causes two common problems;
1/. It physically weakens the termination.
2/. It increases the terminal resistance which can lead to heat build up which can damage the connector (and/or the wire), it also leads to reduced voltage at the equipment which can impair performance or reduce life.
Conventional stripper jaws have sharp edges which are responsible for most of the nicked strands we see.
