ELT Battery Replacement

ELT Batteries need to be replaced every 5-6 years (typically).  Some manufacturers require this to be done by an approved Part 145 maintenance organisation.

The batteries are a long life Lithium Metal composition.  This is the only battery technology that is capable of supplying sufficient power for the required 48 hours of transmission at the extreme temperature specifications.  The down side of this battery composition is the transport.  ICAO have imposed very strict conditions on shipping these batteries, the latest being that they can no longer be shipped by air.  Consequently, the batteries are now much more expensive and they are not always available when you need them.
